If you’ve got a question about one of our choirs, teams or venues, then we’ve put together some frequently asked questions.
How much does it cost to join?
Depending on how you choose to pay. Encore Choir costs £100 per term. This payment can be split into half-term or monthly instalments. For more information, click About/fees
How can I pay for the sessions?
Payments can be made by a bank transfer or setting up a monthly standing order.
Where are your choirs based?
We have choirs in Alton, Nyewood (Petersfield), Winchester and Wickham. To see our locations.
When do you rehearse?
All our choirs run from 7.15 – 9.15 pm in your desired location (Alton, Nyewood or Petersfield).
Do you offer a free trial?
Yes, we offer one free taster session so you can get to know how Encore Choirs works.
What should I expect at my first session?
Firstly, we understand that coming into a new group can be daunting! Our groups are extremely welcoming and friendly. In your first session, our choir leader will provide you with all the lyrics or music that you need for the evening. You will then join one of our three groups (Sopranos, Altos or Tenors) and are welcome to sing or listen to the music.
How often do you meet?
We meet during term times and break over the school holidays.
Do I need to audition?
No! All our choirs are audition free and open to anyone who loves to sing.
Do I need to be an experienced singer to join?
Absolutely not—if you enjoy singing, you’re in the right place. Whether you have never sung before or are a seasoned pro, we have a space for you.
Do I need to be able to read music?
Not at all! We welcome singers of all levels, including those who don’t read music. All our songs are taught by ear. We do sometimes have sheet music available for those who prefer to follow a score.
Are your venues wheelchair accessible?
Most of our venues are accessible—please contact us for specific details.
Is there parking available at your venues?
All our venues have a limited number of spaces for parking. Our Nyewood and Alton venues may require you to park in a nearby location.
Do you perform concerts?
Yes, we perform at various events and hold concerts throughout the year!
Is it mandatory to take part in concerts?
No—concert participation is completely optional.
How do I find out my voice part?
Our choir leader will help you to determine your voice part or vocal range and can offer a one-off singing lesson to help you get the best from your voice.
Do you have a uniform?
Yes, Encore Choirs has their own t-shirts in various colours that can be purchased once you have joined the choir. We wear our t-shirts for our performances. If you are likely to perform with us, you will likely be required to purchase a t-shirt.
What happens if I miss a session?
No problem! We know that sometimes members can’t make sessions. The great news is that you are able to practise from home or join us on another evening should you wish to!
What type of music do you sing?
Our repertoire is varied—everything from pop and rock to musical theatre, gospel and classical. We are open to all genres!
What age do I need to be to join?
We welcome adults of all ages! Drop us a line if you have any questions.
Do I need to memorise the songs?
During rehearsals we use lyrics and/or sheet music. We sometimes encourage it for performances, but it’s not always required.
Is the choir affiliated with a religious belief?
No. Our choirs are inclusive and open to anyone and everyone. The greatest gift of music is its universal outreach.
Can I pay per session?
Unfortunately, we don’t offer weekly payments, but we can offer a monthly payment plan. For more details, see our About/fees.
Do you include any dance or movement?
We have no set choreography, but you are welcome to move and feel the music as you wish!
Do rehearsals include a break?
Yes, we usually take around 15 minutes for a refreshment break. Hot drinks, cake and goodies are often provided!
Can I sing a solo?
Solo opportunities are sometimes available – but they are not a requirement of anyone.
Do you provide rehearsal tracks?
Yes! You’ll have access to Encore Choirs ‘Members Section’ which has practice tracks to use at home or on the go.
Can I sing in more than one choir?
Absolutely—many members enjoy singing in multiple groups (This does not cost you any extra!)
Do you teach vocal technique?
Our choir leader, Josh, is a trained singing and voice teacher who has studied vocal function in depth. We place a strong emphasis on vocal health and regularly use proven techniques and exercises to help each group sing at their best. Josh also offers private tuition for individual support.
Do you offer singing lessons?
Our choir leader Josh, may have available spaces for singing lessons. These can be booked by emailing info@encorechoirs.co.uk.
How do I sign up?
Once you’ve had your taster session, you will receive a follow up email asking how you enjoyed the session and whether you would like to join. Should you wish to join, you will then receive a welcome email with all the details about payments, t&c’s, dates and gaining access to our members section and community groups.
